Why Our Mocks?

Eleven Plus Exams has helped thousands of students succeed in their entrance exams to selective senior independent and state schools, through our expert tuition and study materials. Our mock exams are designed to provide you with the most authentic and comprehensive exam preparation experience.

Reflect the real exam

  • Our mocks are tailored towards specific exam boards, including GL, CEM and ISEB.
  • Our mocks reflect the same difficulty levels and timings expected in the actual 11+.
  • Our in-person mocks use OCR scannable answer sheets to reflect the experience of using them before the real exam.
  • Our mocks include up-to-date question styles written by our in-house teachers, based on the most recent entrance exams issued in the last year.

Classroom tested

  • Our mocks are developed in our own classrooms and tested on our students to ensure they mirror the experience and difficulty of a real 11+ exam.

Full length test papers

  • Our mocks are all full length to give students the most accurate representation of their real exam day.

Prepared in-house and not publicly available

  • Our mocks are written by our own teachers and are exclusively used by Eleven Plus Exams. This ensures we use only the highest quality of exam material, which will have been rigorously classroom tested and will never have been seen by your child prior to sitting.

Comprehensive feedback reports

  • Our mock reports provide invaluable peer-comparison: this allows parents to gauge their child's progress in comparison to their cohort and benchmark their child's relative ability.
  • Our mock reports identify specific areas of weakness for your child to focus on, so they can improve on their mistakes before the day of their real test.
  • Our in-person mocks feature detailed exam reviews presented by our subject teachers, which cover the most challenging exam questions and provide expert tips on exam technique.

Prompt results

  • For in-person mocks, feedback reports are typically issued on the same day that a child sits the test.
  • For online mocks, feedback reports are typically issued no more than 1-2 hours after a child sits the test.

Exam conditions in a safe environment

  • Our mocks are conducted in authentic exam conditions, including all relevant formalities.

All major exam boards covered

Granada Learning (GL) Assessment

GL Assessment have been the creators and developers of 11+ exams for the majority of grammar and independent schools in the UK for the last 25 years.

Centre of Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM)

CEM has been providing entrance exams for the independent school sector for many years. It was popular with the grammar school sector from 2013–2023.

CEM is now mainly used by independent schools as an online exam known as CEM Select.

Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB)

ISEB is the creator of the common entrance exam and is used by many independent schools. This includes paper format exams for 11+ and 13+.

ISEB also produces the common pre-test, an online, age-standardised exam sat prior to entry into senior school.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There are many providers, why should I book your mock exams?

    • Eleven Plus Exams is a reliable and trusted source for all things 11+. We have provided 11+ advice, resources and tuition for over 20 years. We are the creators of the first website dedicated to providing 11+ resources and advice and we are the hosts of the UK’s largest online 11+ forum. We also publish 11+ practice books and have developed our own 11+ online preparation software.
Eleven Plus Exams has written real entrance exams for particular independent schools, and through this process we have ensured our testing material reflects realistic exam timing, appropriate difficulty levels and covers all topics that appear in the 11+.

Our mock exam papers are written by our in-house subject experts and are tailored to specific exam boards. They are classroom tested with our own tutees to ensure their accuracy and effectiveness.

Many mock exam providers may create generalised papers which seek to cover every exam board or otherwise create single subject papers which are 30 minutes in length. The value of shorter or generic papers may be limited as they do not reflect a real 11+ exam experience. These papers are likely to contain question styles that are not relevant to the exam your child will sit, or will omit some question styles that are relevant. A mock exam’s composition, content, time pressure and difficulty level should be targeted to a specific school for maximum efficacy. For example, a mock exam cannot be suited for Queen Elizabeth Boys' school as well as Latymer School as both schools use different exam bodies.

Our mock papers are exclusive to Eleven Plus Exams and we do not sell or provide them via third party tutors for their own mock exam sessions. Although the full mock exam papers are not released due to copyright, our feedback reports provide access to all questions that are skipped or incorrect, so that every student can easily identify their areas for improvement.

  • What is the difference between the Sets A, B, C etc.?

    • We produce multiple papers for each type of mock exam. This enables students to sit several papers that target specific schools/exam boards. All paper sets are of equal exam level difficulty and so can be sat in any order.

When booking, please avoid booking the same sets across different dates, as these will be the same paper, e.g. do not book CEM Set A for a second date if you have already booked an earlier date for this Set A.

  • How many mocks should my child sit?

    • Eleven Plus Exams recommends its own students sit at least three mock exams.

Children aged 10-11 years typically have little experience of formal exam conditions, as timed curriculum tests in primary school are usually relatively relaxed and sat in familiar surroundings. Some children can find even mock exams intimidating and get very nervous and have difficulty remaining focused while sitting them. We find that our own Year 5 students make greater progress with exam performance by sitting more mock exams as opposed to extending their tuition lessons, as this both tests their knowledge for their real exam and provides them with valuable experience becoming comfortable and confident with what to expect on the day of their test.

We recommend that your child's first mock exam is not left until the summer period, because of the risk of causing worry and distress if your child does not perform well.

We also recommend booking one early mock exam, to provide a general idea of how well your child is performing against their cohort. This enables you to plan for the months ahead and leaves more time to address weak spots that have been identified in your feedback report.

Some parents worry that their child is not ready for their first mock exam. We find that this is not a problem provided you manage your child's expectations and reassure them that high scores are not expected and that there is plenty of time for improvement. It is important to personally gauge whether your child is ahead of the competition or needs to do some extra work to catch up with their peers.

  • Which mock exam should I book?

    • The mock exam you need to book will depend on the school your child is sitting for.
Click on the name of particular exam types to check for further details about them. Within these details will be the names of which schools the exam type is most relevant for.

  • What is a 'review session'?

    • Our in-person mock exams are typically followed by a review session which takes place immediately following a refreshment break after students have sat their mock exam.

These review sessions will address the most difficult questions in the paper via digital presentations hosted by our in-house subject experts and teachers. Students are provided with step-by-step solutions to these tricky questions, exam tips and techniques, and are able to ask any questions to aid their overall understanding.

This is a unique and valuable part of the mock exam service we provide, as it provides students with the opportunity to learn from their mistakes while the exam content is fresh in their minds.

  • When will we receive exam results?

    • For our in-person mock exam sittings, feedback reports are typically provided on the same day the test is sat, usually within a few hours of the mock exam session concluding. This ensures that the feedback itself is useful and effective, as the exam is still fresh in the student’s mind.

For in-person exams, we have a team who are dedicated to the scanning and checking of answer sheets so that we can issue the reports as quickly as possible. For larger events away from our own premises, we sometimes require more time of up to 24 hours.
For online exams, as these are attempted at different times, a feedback report is typically issued within 24 - 48 hours of concluding th exam.

A feedback report will be provided by email and will contain a student’s score, percentile ranking, feedback and access to the questions the student got incorrect or skipped.
